The Malleus Maleficarum, or Hammer of Witches, was by far the most influential work on witchcraft to be supported by the Catholic Church. For nearly three centuries Malleus Maleficarum was the professional witch-hunt manual. The procedures recommended in this book includes torture to effectively obtain confessions and the death penalty as the only sure remedy against the evils of witchcraft. Malleus Maleficarum was the theoretical base for burning thousands of people among all Europe in 15-17 centuries. The book was authored by Heinrich Kramer and later Jakob Sprenger was added as co-author.
